Gauri Malla: Nepal’s first female prime minister

The first Nepali political drama in the history of Nepali soap operas, Singha Durbar will feature the veteran actor Gauri Malla as the Country’s first female prime minister. Scheduled to go on-air on September of this year, Singha Durbar will bring out the potential challenges that a PM and other leaders have to go through on a daily basis.

Known for his previous work in Mukundo and Karma, Director Tsering Rhiter Sherpa says, “The story of Singha Durbar is based on a near future in a post-constitution Nepal. Through realistic story lines, characters and dialogues, the TV series aims to capture the imagination of the audiences and make them believe in the possibility of a collaborative political culture.”

Protagonist Gauri Malla’s character will demonstrate the possibility of  women’s leadership in Nepali politics and the government in near future. “ Singha Durbar is a content driven political drama, which will change the way people see Nepali soap operas,” said Malla.

Singha Durbar is a joint venture of Search for Common Ground Nepal and Mila Productions with the financial support of USAID Nepal.
