Joanna Lumley against animal slaughter at Gadhimai festival in Nepal

Hollywood actress Joanna Lumley has urged government of Nepal and the Hindu Devotees to stop the practice of ‘animal slaughter’ during Gadhimai festival . Actress Lumley submitted a protest letter with 80,000 signatures to the Nepalese Embassy in London yesterday.

Actress Lumley at a rally said that this cruesome practice is not the part of Hindi religion and faith. She further added, ‘ the real humans are always against the sacrification and when it comes to animal slaughter, it’s never forgivable’. ‘The practice of immolating animals in the name of religion shouldn’t be continued’, actress insisted. The Hindu society in Britian has also supported her in the mission. She is also the one to fight for the rights of Gorkha Soldier in the U.K.
Gadhimai Mela is observed on the end of November(28 & 29) every five years in Bara district of Nepal, where 250,000 animals are barbarously killed. The festival is last celebrated in 2009 and the next one is scheduled for November this year. Buffallo, goat, bull, etcs are the animals sacrificed in the festival. Voice against the killing of animals in Gadhimai Festival has been raised many times but the activity is not yet banned.
British actress Joanna Lumley was last seen in 2013’s American black comedy film The Wolf of Wall Street opposite to Leonardo DiCarprio . She is also an author, voice-over artists and a TV presenter.
