Anjali Lama-Nepals first transgender model
It takes a lot of courage to actually stand up, be yourself, and do what you feel is right. Particulary, in a Nepali community and on top of that, when it comes to the transgender male and female to be considered as what they are, it was next to impossible. Anjali Lama is probably the first who daree to go beyond the hypocritisy. She took a stand for herself and now she has the life of her own.
Anjali Lama-Nepals first transgender model disregard of what the society said abour het, what her family beleived to actually be true for her, she kept doing she felt was right and now she carved her own identity which a very few people can do.
Anjalai was fetured in various popular magazines and interviewed in several media since she disclosed her identiy. Recently, a documentary movie about her was premiered in Kathmandu’s Kumari Cinemas .
Documentary titled “Anjali: Living Inside Someone Else’s Skin”, is directed by Mohan Rai.The fifty-minute long film tells the story how hard and challenging it has been for Anjali transforming from Nabin to who she is today. Movie takes Anjali Lama back to her birth place, her family and gives a brief look of what she is right now.
Anjali Lama who hails from Nuwakot, she is loved in the fashion industry, but gets very little opportunities in terms of work. Anjali has a dream to have a full sex change operation and become a Supermodel.
Anjali at a press conference for the film on Wednesday said,
“I was born in a big family with four older brothers and two younger sisters. I used to find it very weird when I had likes, dislikes and thoughts of a girl when I was physically identified as a male. Only after I came to Kathmandu for my higher studies, I found my true identity”.
